Community Health Organizing

CCUIH's community health organizing aims to leverage the work of our members, increase the capacity of the urban Indian health care network, and address policy inequities in order to create greater access to health services for American Indians in urban areas.  The consortium meets quarterly with UIHO key staff and board, collaborative partners, and community stakeholders.  CCUIH's quarterly meetings serve as a forum to disseminate pressing urban Indian issues, trends, and relevant policy changes and legislation.  CCUIH also hosts the annual California Urban Indian Health conference.  CCUIH's quarterly meetings and annual conference serve to advance planning for urban Indian health care providers, as well as provide tools and resources needed for the short and long term vitality of UIHOs.

Training and Technical Assistance

CCUIH provides facilitation of culturally appropriate training and technical assistance seminars for consortium members.  CCUIH currently offers interactive T/TA seminars on board development and strategic planning, as well as advocacy approaches and strategies for UIHOs designed to advance community health.  For a full list of T/TA seminars and additional details, please contact CCUIH.

Public Education and Policy Advocacy

CCUIH is a statewide resource on urban Indian health information and related policy decisions.  CCUIH monitors legislation and policy regarding local, state, and federal health care initiatives to assure that urban Indians are not overlooked in planning efforts to address health care access and health disparities of minority groups.  CCUIH distributes policy briefs and position statements on relevant urban Indian issues and decisions, as well as issues press releases on urban Indian news and events.

CCUIH also fosters collaboration and partnerships with community consortia, national, state, and local agencies, and other strategic partners including: the California Primary Care Association (CPCA), National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH), California Rural Indian Health Board (CRIHB), and the Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI).
